We’ve Arrived — Tokyo!
Finally! We took off yesterday at 1:50 pm from Toronto, we blew by Huntsville at 2:06 pm and landed in Tokyo at 2:05 am (all EDT). The flight was 12 hours long and there’s a 13-hour difference (we’re now 13 hours ahead of everyone at home). I don’t think Japan is on Daylight Savings Time - yet to be confirmed. Anyway, we landed at 3:05 pm Tokyo time.
We flew up over the Arctic - the flight path is in this picture - it’s a bit blurry but you should be able to make out YYZ on one end and HND on the other (Haneda airport in Tokyo).
The sake helped.
Quite a nice tourist hotel. And they provide slippers for in the room. It looks like they’re on the wrong feet, but when I switched them, they still looked wrong. One size and one foot fits all.

Lots of these planes around here.
And one of the longest sections of airport we’ve ever been in. I think there were 8 moving sidewalks all in a row.
Proof that we made it...well, it’s not quite 2020 yet, but hey...it’s still Tokyo.
We got a taxi to the hotel and there we met up with Alastair, our tour guide, and he informed us we were all to meet tonight at 7 pm in the hotel lobby to head out for dinner.
Personally, I could lose weight here. I tried everything once, and I have to admit the sashimi was quite tolerable. But it’s not my ‘cup of tea’.
Then Dan found this guy staring at him from his miso soup (which you drink from the bowl). A whole new meaning to the phrase “here’s lookin’ at ya”.
The sake helped.
We walked back to our hotel afterward for a much-needed good night’s sleep. Sleeping in moving things doesn’t work for me. Lots of neon here, right around the corner from our hotel, Akasaka Excel Hotel Tokyu (no, that’s not a spelling error).

Off to bed for some much-needed sleep.
You know Deb, I think I might be losing a few pounds if I were on that trip as well... where is the lasagne?????
ReplyDeleteAnd, did Dan enjoy the Miso soup?
